Stained Glass Windows

CARPENTER
This window reflects the hard work of all manual laborers, in particular carpenters.

 

CONFIRMATION
A Bishop is administering the Sacrament of Confirmation. This window reflects the Imposition of Hands

 ANOINTING OF THE SICK
   A priest is administering the Sacrament of the Sick to a parishioner.

 

MARRIAGE
A couple is exchanging vows in the Sacrament of Marriage.

 EUCHARIST
This window reflects the image of Jesus administering the Holy Eucharist at the altar.

BAKER
One of the occupations of Saint Anthony’s parishioners is depicted in this window; a baker removes loaves of bread from the oven.


 FIREFIGHTERS

One of the occupations of Saint Anthony’s parishioners is depicted in this window, which reflects a firefighter in service to the community.

STRAWBERRY GROWERS
Saint Anthony’s Church is often described at “The Church built by strawberries.” This window reflects the occupation of many early parishioners of this parish.

LANDSCAPERS
This is one of three windows that reflects the work of Landscapers with land and the sea. In the background, the beautiful flowers are reminiscent of the Azores and Cape Verde Islands, which were home to many parishioners before they settled in East Falmouth.


MECHANICS

Many of the early settlers and immigrants found work in some of the small factories and workshops of Cape Cod. This window reflects a worker at the lathe of an automobile repair shop. 


STRAWBERRY PLANT

This window represents both the landscapers and strawberry growers as it depicts the strawberry plant and the “runners” that nourish the strawberries as they move out from the “mother plant” to the new plants. 

 HOLY ORDERS
   This window depicts the Ordination to Sacred Orders. A bishop is administering this Sacrament, and this particular scene is the prostration of the candidates to Holy Orders.


FARMERS

The love of the soil is a strong characteristic of many of the immigrants from Portugal and the Islands. This scene has a parishioner watering and nourishing his garden. 


MASON

A wall is being built, the cinder blocks and the cement being carefully placed by the skilled hands of a mason, again one of the many professions of the parishioners of Saint Anthony’s.

 FISHERMAN
   The ocean is such a part of the life of parishioners of this Cape Cod community; this window reflects the hard work of the fisherman.

 


SYMBOL OF MARY

   This window offers an early symbol of Mary, a “crib” to reflect the birth of Jesus and the lily to symbolize Mary’s virginity.


 SYMBOL OF CHRIST

   The first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, Alpha and Omega, represent these Greek words on either side of the Cross. The translation of the words is, “The Beginning and the End.”


 BAPTISM

   This window reflects a child receiving the Sacrament of Baptism by the pouring of water and the words of Baptism.

 

POLICE OFFICER
   Many of our parishioners have served our community as police officers for both the Town of Falmouth and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 

RECONCILLIATION
   A priest is administering the healing ministry of Jesus through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

 


VIRTUES OF FAITH

   This window reflects the hope and light of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. What once was the sign of death becomes the symbol of hope and new life.

 

THE HOLY SPIRIT
   This window reflects the third person of the Holy Trinity, The Holy Spirit, as the Spirit descended upon the apostles and the church at Pentecost.

 THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
   This window reflects the Decalogue, or Ten Commandments, that were given to Moses in the Old Testament.

JOSEPH
   An early image of Saint Joseph depicting the compass and the square, both instruments of a carpenter. The flowers are a sign of life.

BIBLE
   This window offers the image of the Bible, The Shield (Star) of David representing the Jewish Scriptures that we refer to as the Old Testament, and the Cross representing the Christian Scriptures that we refer to as the New Testament.

 


NURSING

   This window reflects the service of many parishioners continuing the healing ministry of Jesus as nurses.

 

SACRED HEART OF JESUS
   This window reflects the theology of the burning love of Jesus for his people, a love that cannot be contained.


  VIRTUE OF HOPE

   The evergreen trees represent the everlasting promise of God as given to us in the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ.


ANCHOR

   A symbol both of boating but also of faith. The flame and the cross indicate the living life of faith.

 

PLUMBERS
   Parishioners used their hands in service to others. This window shows a plumber at work replacing pipes.


TEACHERS

   Parishioners have served the community as teachers both in our schools and our religious education program for faith formation.


PRIEST

   This window depicts a priest celebrating the Eucharist; the Mass is central to our worship and to our lives of faith.

 

 

 

LAMB OF GOD

This window originally was centered in the sanctuary above and behind the altar. It is now in the wall of the East transept. It reflects the image of Jesus as The Lamb of God with the word and the mission of the church.
