"GOTCHA" EVENTS
"YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CANNOT HIDE"
PAN-FALMOUTH CHALLENGE
Next April 22, 2010 (Tuesday of school vacation week) we will have a Pan-Falmouth Challenge, where families would ride their bikes from North Falmouth to Woods Hole (11.5 miles) on the Shining Sea Bikeway.
In the course of the previous six months, the children of the parish, in our faith formation program and those who attend catholic schools would be seeking the support of grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors etc for their loose pennies (pennies only) the goal would be to collect 1,000,000 pennies for Fatima Hall.
The Pan - Falmouth Challenge, riding bicycles the full length of Falmouth with an opportunity to meet other parishioners.
Fatima Hall Ride – Pan Falmouth Challenge T-Shirts
Adult monitors and riders at all intersections
Falmouth Police at Route 28 (Woods Hole Road at Elm Street)
Bottled water at half way mark
Pizza at the end (Church of the Messiah or Saint Joseph’s)
SAINT ANTHONY’S GOLF TOURNAMENT
The golf tournaments, raffle, silent auction and banquet, would be held next June (so college students could be involved) or September it would be an annual event and the proceeds of that golf tournament to go toward supporting the programs and operations of Fatima Hall.
Most likely at Falmouth Country Club
Reception at the Coonamessett Inn
A twenty-one member steering committee has been formed to work out the details and begin the planning for this event

HOW "GOTCHA" STARTED
It absolutely amazing to me how a “Gotcha” can cause the level of curiosity to rise in this community and the lengths that some people have gone to find out what is in my head.
I presume that the vast majority of those gathered have seen in the past several weeks a whole series of events designed by the Parish Council to be fun and to be available to the parish. I’m referring to events like
The Sunset Cruise
The Paw Sox Game
The Six Flags Trip
The Patriots Training Camp
In addition to these some other events in the fall will happen as well.
“Waterfire” in Providence
A trip to Foxwoods
The Ethnic cooking
A Christmas Trip to New York City
A Christmas lights trip to LaSalette Shrine
For the most part these types of events are scheduled printed in the weekly bulletin and listed on our website, not a great deal of work in preparation.
Early one morning, about three o’clock I had an Idea to continue these types of events but to get more people involved and have fun in the process, if these are not going to be fun, I don’t want to do them. My goal is simply to have greater participation from parishioners and influence our parish life with fun activities at the same time. It is not just about praying together it’s about playing together as well.
My idea is four different events, each of them with several parts.
Halloween Activity
Christmas Parade
Pan-Falmouth Challenge
Saint Anthony’s Golf Tournament
I think all of these are do able and can be great fun and continue to generate interest in our parish and more activities and events will follow.
That’s my Idea, will you help me make it real? Let me know by clicking "contact us"
OCTOBER 31, 2009
What do we associate with the last day of October, Halloween and what do we associate with Halloween, costumes and parties. With that day there are other events and activities, what can be more fun than Halloween.
Halloween this year is on a Saturday and what I would like to see happen is not a Haunted House, or a haunted field, something better a haunted cemetery.
My idea is to use the natural scariness of the cemetery at night, not doing anything in the cemetery itself, but to use the half-mile border road of our cemetery and on the opposite side of the road from the cemetery to have “haunted events”.
After the “traveling” through the haunted cemetery everyone would return to the basement of the church for a make your own sundae event, for the kids and their parents.
The next day, Sunday, November First is All Saints Day and have the kids dress up again but not as ghosts and goblins, but really as saints and have their costumes be the homily of that day.
Followed by doughnuts, juice, coffee etc after the masses in the church basement once again
The work involved can be fun and involve all different ages
Haunted scenes
Ice cream sundae event
Doughnuts and costumes.
CHRISTMAS PARADE
Every year Falmouth has a Christmas Parade, this year will be my eleventh Christmas and I have never gone to the Christmas Parade. But this year I would like Saint Anthony’s to have a float in the parade. It is my understanding that not a single Christian church of Falmouth is involved in the Christmas Parade.
I understand that the theme is world peace, my idea is to build something that would look like the front of our church, to have the doors wide open with a sense of light and welcoming and on the float would be flags of different nations that represent our rich ethnic tradition of our parishioners to reflect our diversity.
On the float would be some people, but on the street walking with the float would be other parishioners, handing out to the “viewers” of the parade an invitation to join us as our guests following the activities on the Falmouth Green at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church Hall (or the parish hall of the Congregational Church) for punch, hot chocolate and Christmas cookies made by the parishioners of Saint Anthony’s
PAN-FALMOUTH CHALLENGE
Next Spring to have a Pan-Falmouth challenge, where families would ride their bikes from one of two locations. From the church to Fresh Pond Hall and from the Portuguese-American Club to Fresh Pond Hall.
The pan Falmouth challenge, riding bicycles from one location and meeting a family and entrusting them with your pennies to bring back to the church and the pennies would be counted and rolled.
SAINT ANTHONY’S GOLF TOURNAMENT
I have only played golf once in my life; my freshman year in college, and that story is not for tonight.
I don’t know much about golf tournaments, but everybody tells me they are great fun, most tournaments beyond the golf have significant raffles and a banquet, I would like to have a golf tournament next summer and have it be an annual event and the proceeds of that golf tournament to go toward the building and operations of Fatima Hall.
Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish of North Falmouth had their golf tournament two weeks ago today and I understand they normally raise about $65,000.00

PRIEST
This window depicts a priest celebrating the Eucharist; the Mass is central to our worship and to our lives of faith.

ANCHOR
A symbol both of boating but also of faith. The flame and the cross indicate the living life of faith.

FISHERMAN
The ocean is such a part of the life of parishioners of this Cape Cod community; this window reflects the hard work of the fisherman.
