In 2002, Saint Anthony’s Parish purchased the “Souza Family Home” at 229 East Falmouth Highway. The parish property totally surrounded this property and so to purchase this home and make it once again part of the parish campus was a logical move.
We made some renovations to the building, moved our religious education office into this building, and began to use it for education, meetings, and funeral receptions. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire at the hand of arsons in January of 2003.
Although Fatima Hall was only apart of our facilities for a short time it became an important part of our parish, and its loss created a void.
Our Parish Finance Council and our Parish Pastoral Council began to discuss what we ought to do to replace this building. After several plans and various designs we arrived at this design. We began our fundraising in January of 2008 and hope to have ground breaking in the spring of 2009 with completion of the building in the spring of 2010.
Fatima Hall Update April 2009
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about Fatima Hall in two different areas. The first ought not be a surprise to any of us that the economy is the worse that it has been in decades. I did not think it was appropriate to be seeking contributions for this building when some who had pledged to this project are unemployed and having great difficulty making ends meet in their ordinary living.
The second just before Christmas the Architect of this project was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been receiving radiation and chemotherapy since that time. He still has two more weeks of treatment before we will have a good understanding of his prognosis. He is a very good man and dedicated to this project and we would like to proceed with his vision of Fatima Hall.
Because of these two factors I have been silent. Hopefully both of these concerns will improve greatly this spring and we can get back on track. Please keep our unemployed parishioners in your prayers as well as the Architect.
